Ed Video Media Mdia Arts Centre: Honorary Lifetime Membership Awards Announced

Guelph. ON, September 6, 2011 –

It is with great delight that the Staff and Board of Directors of Ed Video Media Arts Centre would like to announce the recipients of the Lifetime Honorary Membership Award.   This award serves to reward media artists for their accomplishments and their contribution to media art and Canadian culture, as well as to honour their past contributions to Ed Video and recognize their important role in our Centre.  We are thrilled to take this opportunity to voice our gratitude to some of our nation’s foremost media artists, as well as thank them for being a part of Ed Video’s storied past.

In this inaugural year of the award there will be ten recipients including: Charlie Fox, Nora Hutchinson, Kelly Richardson, Janet Cardiff & George Bures Miller, Noel Harding, Ian Easterbrook, Kenneth Doren, Eric Cameron, Nick Hall, and Mark Hamilton

All of these nominees have one thing in common, the fact that their remarkable artistic practice played an important part in Ed Video’s 35 year history, and we’re grateful.
The ceremony will take place on Thursday September 15th, 2011 at 7 pm at the The Ed Video Gallery, Second Floor, 40 Baker Street, Guelph, ON, N1H 6R7

After the awards ceremony there will be a panel discussion on the life cycles of an artist-run centre with participants from across the decades of Ed Video. The 35th Anniversary Exhibit, A Friendly Rewinder will also be running, curated by Ufuk Gueray. The artists include: Eric Cameron, Jenn E. Norton, Melissa Hamonic, Charlie Fox, Kevin Hogg, and Peter Taussig. The show runs from  September 10th to September 30th.
